EPA Launches Climate-Change Strategy to Help Ensure Favorable Water Usage

by Climate Weekly – Oct. 28, 2008

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has launched the National Water Program Strategy: Response to Climate Change, which includes the potential impacts that climate change may have on clean water, drinking water, and oceans. The strategy discusses where and why certain water pollution problems may arise, changes in drinking water supplies, and the impact that climate change may have on coastal areas.

Where Favorable Results Could Be Seen

In addition to pointing out potential problem areas, the report sets forth several response actions that could yield positive results:

  • mitigating greenhouse gases;
  • adapting to climate change;
  • researching the relationship between water and climate change;
  • educating individuals and groups about climate change; and
  • further developing a water program-management system that takes climate change into account.
